Permanent Supportive Housing

The primary objective was to integrate the neighborhood to begin to breakdown the social stigma associated with homelessness. Due to nearby schools and bus stops, the intention was to create convenient shortcuts across the site for students and commuters.

The site investigation uncovered a nearby small community garden. This led to an extension of this garden, devoting much of the landscape to growing vegetables and implementing a "Garden to Table" Cafe. This creates an opportunity for interaction, dining, learning, as well as a small revenue stream.

Another main objective was to build a strong sense of community among the building's residents. As the circulation carves around the units, it creates both gathering spaces as well as reflective spaces, with the understanding that a residents’ mentality can change drastically between first arrival and months to years later.
