SLIDE House
Generated from the notion that in the contemporary world, a family’s dynamic socioeconomic conditions can transform the way they live over time, Slide House is a flexible environment to match shifting needs and desires.
Spaces can be expanded and pulled out from larger spaces to double square footage and provide a range of programmatic spaces. To achieve this, the movement of major furniture / room dividers and sliding panels takes a cue from Los Angeles’s Case Study Houses in which sliding glass doors blur the line between interior space and the comfortable Californian environment.
Sustainability is essentially about flexibility, the best use of recyclable materials and the highest energy efficiencies will only have a short term impact unless they can adapt to the long term flexible requirements of a rapidly changing world.
